My Self-Righteousness and the Pride After

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while! I just noticed I hadn't posted since last Monday!? :0
Anyways, I just wanted to tell you about something I've been thinking of lately. About three years back my family and I took a trip to Arizona, and while there I heard a sermon about how it says in the bible that everyone is building a temple either of sticks, hay, and wood; or with silver, gold, and precious jewels. And that everyones deeds would be evident because it would be refined with fire. Now I had just been saved by God's Grace about a week or two before, so I was a brand-new believer. And when I heard this I thought of the people before me or others who had been Christians longer than I had (which was a lot since I was just saved) and thinking of how my house was made of the worthless things and just feeling very humble. And recently I felt like I wasn't felling like this enough, and that I would find self-righteousness in my own works or even this blog, Like, "Wow, look at all the people I'm helping on the blog. That's got to be at least six ounces of Gold!;)" Maybe not really like that but I felt like too often we find things to have self-righteousness in. And I thought I would rather be humble and have nothing to be proud of except Christ than to have a huge temple of gold that one half on the place is roting because of my pride in my own works!

I see where you're coming from. In answer to your earlier comment, I have like zero experience with a camera.

Hey I was wondering if any of you guys thinks we should put some new music on. I know we should change it if we do, but we've been wondering if you guys enjoy it or not. Please leave a comment and tell us if you would like us to get a new song on there on if we shouldn't do music.

Yes, very well said.

Aren't you glad that God drew us to him, because we would have never chosen him on our own.

I like the music on the sidebar... how did you get it on? I want to put a Switchfoot song on my blog ;)

Margaret Braun June 10, 2008 at 7:50 AM

Actually, I haven't listened to the music. I need some extra stuff that I haven't bothered installing. And as you may have noticed, my convictions on music are somewhat different than yours, but that's OK.

Margaret Braun June 10, 2008 at 7:51 AM

Oh, look, I don't have music on my profile but it's quite different. But as the Lord leads...

Raine June 10, 2008 at 9:01 AM

hi kole! i've been struggling with pride too these past months. i'm glad i'm not alone. mine's sort of different from yours though but it still involves blogging. it's something like self-glorification through a spiritual blog post. i keep searching my heart on every post, whether my motives are truly pure as i wrote posts, especially those that mention God and Scripture. sadly, i found out my impure motives and God has been convicting me about my blog recently. i believe we really do have to pray about everything, even our blogs, that God will be glorified.

Raine June 10, 2008 at 9:03 AM

now, about archuleta. he's 17 too. and i'm glad we're all piano-playing here. heee. keep practicing!

I had never thought about it before, but duh. What happens when you refine hay with fire? Or sticks or wood for that matter... Hmm, good points.

RYC: I don't think it can hurt to pray for your mate either. We are supposed to "pray without ceasing" so I'm sure that we could work a wife in there too.

VERY good points! Thanks so much for sharing them. I will be pondering this today.

PS: I love Opposite Way by Leeland! I get chill bumps every time I listen to it. Great stuff.

Meshaay June 10, 2008 at 12:36 PM

Great post! We all have to be careful of pride. It sneaks in so easily! (it did that to me, and it's still being broken down. Now I've got to learn true humility)
What exactly did you mean when you said your house was all wood and hay and it made you feel very humble?

Kade June 10, 2008 at 4:01 PM

Meshaay: How I saw nothing that was worthy of any recognition, or praise. I would rather feel this way, than have things worthy of recognition and praise and be proud or feel self-righteous about it.

Kaysie: I love hearing that song espicialy the second verse, and I love playing it on the piano!

Thanks for visiting Raine! I'll be checking back at your blog today!

Margaret: Are you saying that you don't think music is good or certain types of it.

Kole, I admit, I tend to be somewhat legalistic although I am breaking out of that. Sorry if I offended you, that's not what I intended. Meshaay asked me about this as well.

I respect that others have very different convictions on music but I tend to leave some music alone, although I really like music. I also try not to make any assumptions on the artist based on their music. There's simply just some bands I don't care for but I also recognize that they love Jesus and have a desire to serve Him. I'm not necessarily saying that some music is bad but I've seen a lot of people listen to Christian music but don't understand what Christianity really is or don't really want anything to do with it; they just go for the beat. Some so called Christian music hardly mentions Christ and I think that's where it comes from. That makes me question the message the artist is putting forth, but no, I'm not condemning music nor do intend to push my personal convictions on anybody.

Sorry, I hope that at least made a bit of sense and I really didn't mean to offend anybody.

Margaret Braun June 10, 2008 at 5:33 PM

I tend to speak my mind more than I should.

Meshaay June 11, 2008 at 1:01 AM

Kole: Oh okay. Thanks.
Margaret: Thanks for explaining. I think kind of like that too.

Margaret: I feel the same way with some types of music. There are some of those "christian" bands that I think our cultur could do without. I dislike any type of music with screaming in it, I enjoy bands that can be a little harder like Switchfoot or faster like Reliant K, but I can't handle really hard or screaming music. I'm also not a big fan of rap music, although there are two songs I really enjoy by Toby Mac that have some rap in it. Music like Leeland I can and would recomend to anyone. They're not that hard and not that soft in my opinion.

Morgan: who were the little kids I saw on your blog?

Neufini: Sorry I forgot how to spell your name. I deleted your comment because I was told that there were some bad pic's on that web page and I would ask that you not do that agian. Feel free to comment but please make sure that if you leave a link, that the web page is safe.

For anyone who wanted to know what it said, he was asking if we had heard of Downhere and a song called "A better way". Yes, I have that album, I am not a big fan but they are okay, in my opinion. Thanks!

I have deleted my previous comment because I realized that when I attempted to point out an issue in Kole's post, I made the same mistake myself. I said that Kole was being accusing and judgmental when I was doing the same. I apologize to anyone who may have seen my comment. I will try to rewrite it in a loving manner later this week because I still stand by my original point and I think that Kole needs to be aware of it.

Kade June 22, 2008 at 6:07 PM

Hey, I just know noticed you commented on this post. I didn't get to read the first one, but I would really like to know what you don't agree with, and don't worry about being judgmental. I like disscussing things like this!

P.S. If you want to discuss this privatly, you can comment any email address I can contact you at and I'll delete the comment right after I get the email so that no one else gets it.
