RE: What to pray for?

Hey, guys! I am soooo sorry! I've been out of the blogging world a lot lately, and that's not an entirely bad thing, but it's really hard to get back in it! Just wanted to share something real quick. Today, I was reading Luke 6 and in this chapter Jesus selects his disciples, but there's one thing that I hadn't noticed before. It said that Jesus was up all night praying. Jesus was praying to his father. And I want to ask you, what you think he was praying for? I'll share my thoughts on this same post at the bottom after some discussion.

For His Son's Glory,
-Kole

Sorry Guys! Fell off the horse again. I think he was probably praying like we should, asking God for Wisdom; not the answer.

P.S. Please pray for me tomorrow, I have something big going on!

Wow! Interesting thought. I guess he would pray for some of the same things we would pray for. (i.e. courage and strength.) But I have never thought about it. Hmm...it will be neat to see what you other peoples have to say!

BTW: I was wondering, did you (Kole) go to The Rebelution confrence in TX?

I didn't, but I would like to go sometime soon though. Sounds like there are a lot of people coming to the confrences from what they post on their web site/blog.

Just as Grace said, he was praying for strength and courage, but I also think that he was praying that God's will be done and that no matter what, he would bring glory to God through his death.

I think reading the Psalms would give some really good ideas of what Jesus prayed about. He may have been praying about His disciples ( just before He picked them out specifically), Judas, the Pharisees and Jews who wanted Him dead, the crowds of people He was ministering to and healing and teaching, the towns He was traveling through, His perfect obedience learned through suffering, etc.

I guess having a good understanding of the Bible as a whole would make the most sense out of situations like this, since the whole Bible continually reveals light about Jesus' Person, life, work, death and resurrection, as well as His Kingship and return. So my answer is this: the answer is in the Bible :)

Thanks for the question. God bless.

Fell off the horse? I guess Americans have different expressions than Canadians do or it's just you Kole. (That is just an expression right...you didn't really fall off a horse?)

Praying for you.

One thing we need to remember is that prayer is not just asking God for things - it's really just communication with Him. It can just be a time to talk to God, which is what Jesus may have been doing. Could he be asking for courage and strength? Perhaps. He was human after all. Wisdom? Though I'm very often wrong, I don't think that's likely. He was God. And all was going according to His perfect plan. Did he pray for his disciples? Absolutely. In his prayer before his arrest, Jesus prayed for the twelve, and for all believers.

By the way Kole, did you really fall off a horse? I'm also curious to find out if it's an expression.

Margaret, Americans have many different expressions from other Americans. There are big cultural differences in the different regions of the U.S. (ever heard of southern hospitality? Not that I want to speak poorly of Yankees, but it really is a big difference.) There's even a big difference between Huntsville, AL and the rest of the state!

I think I should probably stop using cliches, and I didn't really fall off a horse.

But now you have to explain what it means because some of us obviously don't get it. Also, is this just specific to northwest Arkansas, or is it used in a larger region? Or did you pick it up from somewhere else?
