No Correlation?

I was reading that book "Ancient Wisdom" and the Author was talking about wisdom and he made this statement, "There is absolutely no correlation between age and wisdom." And I thought about this statement. Is that true? What do you think? Please comment and share your thoughts!

Well, personally, I think that wisdom does come with age and experience. We learn (hopefully) from our mistakes. But, there are always people who do not learn from their mistakes. Anyways I think that there is Correlation.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom ..." There are those who are ancient who do not fear the Lord and there are those who are young who do. Who has wisdom?

John Piper mentions this subject in his message on youth but I can't exactly remember what he said. I think Proverbs also has some verses on this...You could pull out a concordance. In this day and age I find that even those that are older aren't always very wise in their decisions but that's personal opinion. I would encourage you to study this or you could even start a thread on the Rebelution forum. Just some suggestions. God bless!

Although wisdom does come with age and experience this is not always the case. We may have heard of an "Old Fool". There are somethings that only the young can understand or even those who become like children. The understanding of the Gospel is one of these things.

I asked a couple of friends if there was definite correlation between age and wisdom and without a second thought they said "No!" My last comment about a thread. Sorry about that. I thought maybe you were members on the Rebelution forum.

I think there is a definite connection between age and wisdom. My parents are much wiser then I am, because they have had experiences which taught them wisdom. I look up to the older girls in my youth group because they have been in my position before and have gained wisdom and experience from it. It's true also, what anonymous said, that sometimes older people that are not Christians may actually not be as wise (in some areas) as a Christian teenager. Generally though, there is definitely a correlation.~TanyaBeth S

Tanyabeth s: but if they would never learn from their mistakes would you say they are more wise than somone younger who does learn from their mistakes?

Good point, Kole. I guess it would depend a lot on the specific situations and individuals.~TanyaBeth
